Programs

At the Aurora Black Community Association (ABC), we offer a variety of programs designed to promote inclusivity, bridge cultural gaps, and foster learning through equitable experiences. Through workshops, educational resources, events, and community initiatives, we work to reduce anti-Black racism and build stronger, united communities. Our services aim to empower individuals, support social and economic growth, and create spaces for meaningful dialogue and cultural exchange.

I Can Swim

A water safety and swimming empowerment program designed to address the historical gap in swim education among Black and racialized communities. This program promotes confidence, safety, and representation—ensuring every child feels at home in and around the water.

Black History & EDI Work.

A yearly event celebrating Black culture and achievements. We collaborate with schools, municipal organizations, and businesses to promote equity, inclusion, and diversity. We also provide consultation.

Breaking Bread and Bridging Cultures

BBBC is a community initiative that brings people together through food, conversation, and cultural exchange. By sharing meals and stories, we break down barriers, build understanding, and celebrate the diverse cultures that make Aurora vibrant.

PowerForward Grant

An empowerment program that supports entrepreneurs, newcomers, and youth through mentorship, leadership training, and access to opportunities. PowerForward helps participants build confidence, develop essential skills, and take bold steps toward social and economic success.

The Collective Lens Movie Series

The Collective Lens Movie Series is more than a film program — it is an extension of our commitment to One Vision, Diverse Voices. Through thoughtfully selected films, we create space for courageous dialogue, shared learning, and deeper understanding across cultures. Each screening becomes a bridge, bringing our community together to reflect on race, identity, belonging, and the lived experiences of the African diaspora. By viewing stories through a collective lens, we honour ABC’s mission to foster unity, amplify diverse perspectives, and build meaningful connections that strengthen the social fabric of Aurora and beyond.
